ROLE PURPOSE

The Grand is looking for a dedicated and reliable Caretaker to join our team. A core part of this role involves ensuring our space is clean, presentable, and welcoming. You will take real pride in the upkeep and readiness of the building, from setting up spaces for events and classes to handling minor maintenance tasks. You will play a vital role in keeping The Grand running smoothly and looking its best.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Cleaning & Presentation (Core Duty):

● Maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout the venue and grounds, including the auditorium, studios, meeting rooms, offices, and public areas.
● Manage waste disposal and recycling routines.
● Monitor and restock cleaning supplies and restroom essentials.

Event Setup & Logistics

● Prepare rooms and event spaces according to operational schedules (e.g., setting up and packing away tables, chairs, and some staging, music equipment).
● Ensure spaces are safely and neatly arranged for incoming community groups, performers, and guests.

General Maintenance & Odd Job

● Carry out minor DIY tasks and basic repairs (e.g., changing lightbulbs, fixing minor fixtures, touch-up painting).
● Conduct routine safety and building checks as required.
● Report any larger maintenance issues or hazards to management promptly

HOURS AND WORKING PATTERN

Contracted Hours: 15–20 hours per week (with a guaranteed minimum of 15 hours).

Core working hours:
● Monday: 7:00 am – 11:00 am (4 hours)
● Tuesday: 11:00 am – 15:00 pm (5 hours)
● Wednesday to Friday: 7:00 am – 10:00 am (3 hours)
● Occasional, early Saturday morning work will be required, rostered in advance according to the venue’s event schedule. Any additional hours up to the 20-hours will be agreed upon based on venue needs.
● Seasonal Adjustment: Please note that contracted hours will be temporarily reduced during the summer holiday break period when venue activity is quieter.

Essential experience:

Experience: Previous experience in a cleaning, caretaking, or facilities role
Physical: Fitness Ability to handle physical tasks, including lifting and moving furniture for event setups.
Skills: Good eye for detail and high standards of cleanliness. Basic DIY skills.
Attributes: Reliable, trustworthy, and able to work independently using initiative.
Manner: A friendly, approachable manner when interacting with other team members and members of the public.
DBS: This role requires a satisfactory Basic DBS Check

Desirable experience:

Experience: Experience working within a community or hospitality venue.
Skills: Knowledge of basic Health & Safety practices.
