The Grand Choir presents Sounds Natural
Sunday 14 July 2024Doors: 4pm | Start: 4.30pm
In 2024, The Grand Choir invite you to a series of ‘Sounds’ themed concerts, starting with ‘Sounds Natural’, featuring a range of songs linked by the theme of flora and fauna. This will then be followed by ‘Sounds Colourful’ in the autumn and ‘Sounds Like Christmas’ for our annual festive celebration.
This summer’s ‘Sounds Natural’ will include a very special 40th anniversary choral arrangement of ‘Yanomamo’, the ecological musical about the Amazonian rain forest first written in 1984 for pupils of St Augustine’s High School, Billington. Some locals may still remember this work being taken on tour, and including narrators such as Sir David Attenborough and Sting.
Join us as we sing a selection of songs from the musical, and remind ourselves that, 40 years on, we still face ecological and climate challenges across the world. Proceeds from this concert will – as in the 1980s – go to the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
