Little Man Tate

On Saturday 14th October Indie Rock band Little Man Tate will be performing at The Grand as part of their newest tour. The band formed in 2005 and released hits such as ‘Sexy in Latin’, which was their highest charting single yet, entering the official UK singles chart at number 20! The band split in 2009, but are now back with newly released music and ready to perform for their fans on their first headline tour in 15 years.

Our Marketing and Events Assistant, Georgia, interviewed Jon and Ben from Little Man Tate to discuss all things new music, life on tour, and what to expect from their show at The Grand…

Tell us a about the background of the band, and what brought you together originally.

Funnily enough it was all around playing football, really. We all played Sunday league football together as kids, and as we got older we shared a love of music, so we decided to start a band. It’s a good job we were better at music than we were at football.

How would you describe your music to people who have never heard it before?

At the end of they day, when you strip it back, it’s funky Indie Rock ‘n’ Roll. We have also been described online as Indie Pop Rock or Punk Pop. With a twist.

We’re edgier than Indie music – Big riffs. Good lyrics. Massive Choruses.

What are you most excited for about playing in Clitheroe at at The Grand?

Ben – “There’s good pizza shops in Clitheroe isn’t there. I’m excited to try the pizza as well as seeing the fans”.

Jon – “It’s the second gig (of the tour), so we will be fresh. We’ve never played Clitheroe, so we’re excited to see it and meet the people there. We should be really fresh and buzzing for it!”

We have a Be My Band project here at The Grand. What advice would you give these young musicians just starting out in their bands?

This is like an old cliche, but just enjoy it – never turn a gig down. When we first started we only have 5 or 6 songs and we just played any gig we could. Our first gig was Punk Fest and we loved it.

Just enjoy it. You’re either going to do it, or you’re not. It’s the weirdest industry ever. If you want to be a doctor, or lawyer or engineer…if you work hard enough, you get the job. With music there’s probably thousands of bands out there that are brilliant and have never had a chance to ‘make it’.

Persevere and make yourselves likeable. Be humble. Work hard. Practice. Also show your appreciation to people that turn up to your gigs. Even if there’s 10 people there, still do the same as you would if there were 1,000, and that’s a massive thing.

Tickets to the gig are available here: Little Man Tate at The Grand

Little Man Tate will be supported by The Illicits, a four-piece Indie Rock band from Blackburn. The band have already played electric live shows locally and beyond, and support slots with the likes of Liam Gallagher, DMAs, The Zutons and Miles Kane.
