Ribble Valley Jazz Festival presents a double-bill of excellence with the Mark Williams Trio followed by Zoe Gilby, a popular performer at the Ribble Valley Jazz and Blues Club, who plays for the Festival for the first time, bringing her hotly anticipated 'Aurora Project.'

Singer/songwriter Zoe teams up with jazz trumpet/flugel horn player Noel Dennis, double bassist Andy Champion, guitarist Mark Williams and drummer Russ Morgan for the exciting new Aurora project inspired by compositions by Noel's flugel horn hero, Tom Harrell. This melodic, sharply conceived music has been augmented with lyrics written by Zoe. The innovative, unparalleled, harmonic/rhythmic, sophistication within Harrell's writing will be lyrically heightened by this stellar line-up.  Expect two 45 minute special sets of stylish jazz, preceded by the Mark Williams Trio performance from 7pm, on the same ticket.

Jazz has always been a part of Zoe Gilby's life. She has had this passion passed on to her from her father, Mike Gilby, who worked professionally as a jazz trumpet player and arranger for over 40 years. His influence has played a huge part and continues to do so. Zoe has just released her debut album, 'Now That I am Real'. The title reflects a particular stage in her life and music at the moment.

Noel Dennis is a professional jazz trumpet and flugel horn player, working with various artists and leading his own quartet. He has played alongside the likes of Andy Sheppard, John Warren, Tommy Smith, John Surman, Mark Nightingale, Tim Garland, Pete Churchill and Dave O’Higgins.

Mark Williams Trio - who are currently on Jazz North's fabulous Northernline programme features Mark on guitar, Paul Susans - bass guitar and Russ Morgan - drums).  The band's influences from rock, metal and fusion, with added electronic effects, give this Newcastle guitar trio an edgier, more modern sound, yet with melody and improvisation at its core.

Guitarist/composer Mark, who heralds from Belfast, came to Newcastle-Upon-Tyne in 1999 to complete a BMus (hons) in Jazz, Popular and Commercial music. Since then he has worked with some of the top jazz musicians in the country, and currently a member of Zoe Gilby's quartet as well as other varying musical outfits throughout the North East.
